British startup NPK Recovery demonstrated a mobile system that collects urine from event toilets and converts it into liquid fertilizer containing nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium.
Why it matters
Recovering those nutrients could reduce wastewater-treatment loads and dependence on energy-intensive synthetic fertilizer while turning a difficult waste stream into a usable farm input.
