British grower raises a 2,856.8-pound world-record pumpkin
What happened
UPI reported on October 7 that Ian Paton’s pumpkin, Bagheera, weighed 2,856.8 pounds at the October 3 Wargrave Nursery Giant Pumpkin Weigh-off in Berkshire. A Guinness World Records adjudicator supervised the weighing, which surpassed the 2,819.25-pound record Paton and his brother set in 2025.
Why it matters
The new mark is a certified measurement, not an estimate based on a photograph. Paton said he spent up to six hours a day tending the pumpkin and supplied about 130 gallons of water daily; after its public display, it is expected to become cattle feed.
