Grok Finds Jesus

What happened

In a viral exchange on X reported on October 1–2, a user asked Grok to remove fake gods from an illustrated group of religious and mythological figures. The chatbot left Jesus in the picture and defended that choice in follow-up replies. The Catholic Herald reported that Grok also affirmed Christ’s divinity and invoked a biblical passage. This was a particular chatbot exchange, not an official theological announcement from xAI.

Why it matters

The episode shows how a simple image-editing request can produce religious assertions that spread as an AI verdict. A chatbot’s answer is evidence of what it generated in that exchange; it does not independently settle a theological question or establish that the software possesses personal faith.

The Blappos angle

Tech support found a higher power. Someone requested an image edit and accidentally installed a pastor. The praying robot, surprised technician and server-room encounter are invented satire of the chatbot’s sudden theological confidence.
