Fleeing Mustang challenges parked airplane, loses dogfight immediately
What happened
Road & Track reported that a 17-year-old driving a black 2008 Ford Mustang allegedly fled police without headlights, smashed through the perimeter fence at Portsmouth International Airport, crossed the apron, hit a Kubota tractor and then struck a parked Pilatus PC-12 airplane. No one else was injured.
Why it matters
The collision reportedly damaged the aircraft’s wing and landing gear and could produce a repair bill in the millions. The teenager was arrested and faced charges including aggravated driving while intoxicated—an unusually expensive demonstration that an airport runway is not an automotive escape route.
