Tourists chase a dramatic beach photo; rising tide directs the sequel

What happened

Three tourists entered secluded Lost Boy Beach at low tide for what rescuers described as a dramatic photo opportunity. Rising water and dangerous surf cut off the route back. After hours on the beach, the group used a satellite emergency SOS and arranged sticks into a visible SOS before three rescue swimmers brought them out; only minor bumps and scratches were reported.

Why it matters

Pocket beaches and sea caves can lose their exits quickly as the tide rises, and surf can make an apparently short return route impassable. Satellite SOS helped rescuers locate the group, but emergency communication is a last resort—not a substitute for checking tide tables, weather, access windows and a turnaround time before entering.

The Blappos angle

They went looking for dramatic composition and hired the Pacific as creative director. The final shot included three rescue swimmers and an SOS made of sticks.
